Description

Dutugemunu Raja Maha Viharaya is a historic Buddhist temple located in the Sandarawala village of Ganegama, within the Baddegama Divisional Secretariat of Galle.Situated atop a scenic hill known as Hadi Demala Kanda, the temple is surrounded by lush paddy fields and offers a tranquil environment for worship and meditation. The temple is traditionally associated with King Dutugemunu (161–137 BCE), the celebrated monarch who unified Sri Lanka. It is believed he stayed in this area during his campaigns.The complex includes a large, prominent Buddha statue, an ancient stupa, and traditional monastic buildings.
